Located in a village in Sichuan, China, this project is a courtyard rebuilt on an old site. Taking into consideration of the local culture, the designer integrates traditional gardens, verandas and residential houses to create a courtyard in harmony with the nature. "Time and tide" is taken as the main theme in the creation of the courtyard landscape. Curved verandas are constructed by using local bamboo materials in combination with modern steel. Attempts are also made in this project to combine the traditional Chinese wooden structure with contemporary design techniques.

With the intention of bringing nature indoors, we apply modern design concepts to the layout of a traditional Chinese dwelling with a courtyard and corridor, creating a scenic space featuring rockeries and a pool that enhances human connection with nature, inspires philosophical contemplation on life and nature, and shows the Chinese family’s good wish for a simple and natural life.
